To all Arsenal fans out there,

don’t be jealous at me ya…

HAHAHA

                                                                                     love,

                                                                                      Ning =P

……………………………………………………………………….

On the 2nd day, we visited the city of Oxford. This is where the oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of Oxford is located.

Photo0119

Tis is the Christ Church, one of the largest constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. The Christ Church College’s dining hall is filmed as the Hogwarts dining hall used in the sorting ceremony in Harry Potter.

Photo0122

Oxford is known as the "city of dreaming spire" due to the harmonious architecture of Oxford’s university buildings.

Outside the Christ Church Cathedral.

The Radcliffe Camera which holds books from the Bodleian Library’s English, History, and Theology collections.

Unfortunately, we were unable to snap pic with the Bodleian Library as it was under construction, sob sob…

The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University of Oxford, and it is one of the oldest libraries in Europe.

It is used in the Harry Potter film as the Hogwarts Sanatorium.

here’s an interesting fact bout this library:

an underground book stack was constructed beneath the Radcliffe Camera and the main library.A tunnel underground connects the 2 buildings, and contains a pedestrian walkway, and a mechanical book conveyor which was used for book orders.

so this means that, if you wanted to pinjam a book from the main library but the book was stored in the other library, you could summit the request through computer, and then the book would be sent to the main library through the underground tunnel…

canggih betul!

The Hertford Bridge in New College Laneis often referred to as The bridge of Sighs.

While Su Yi were touring the Bodleian Library, Anson, Ron and I visited the Magdalen College.

There are 39 colleges of the University of Oxford and Magdalen College is one of them, with its own internal structure and activities.

Photo0193

get shocked with this fact:

~undergraduates here are taught in tutorials, often "one to one"~

So scary….. imagine me getting Ann Boyter as my tutor… pengsan straightaway

Photo0202_1

oh ya! and Anson managed to took picture of 2 students from this college who were discussing academic work outside the student Hall…

On day 3, we visited the World’s Favorite Megalithic Stone Circle…

deng deng deng deng dengggggg: the Stonehenge!!!

Photo0253_1

Stonehenge is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones.

what an amazing prehistoric monument!

Photo0257_1

Stonehenge was constructed in three phases.

It has been estimated that the three phases of the construction required more than thirty million hours of labour.

Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy.

Photo0290

a place of magic and wonder…

After the Stonehenge, we made our way to the elegant Georgian city of Bath.

Photo0296

The Royal Crescent in Bath.

The Royal Crescent is a notable residential road of 30 houses, laid out in a crescent.

The city of Bath was originally a Roman settlement founded among surrounding hills around naturally-occurring hot springs.

~ A visit to the Roman Baths ~

The Roman Baths was featured on the 2005 TV programme Seven Natural Wonders as one of the wonders of the West Country.

Photo0302

(pic on top): taken from the terrace looking down into the Baths

Photo0329 The Baths themselves are below the modern street level.

Too bad we were not allowed to enter the baths.

Anyway, wont do so even if we were allowed to do so laaaa…

cause the water is erm… quite dirty…

Photo0333

The Great Bath- the magnificent centerpiece of the Roman baths filled with hot spa water.

Photo0344_1

Here are some legend regarding the baths:

~ "The Spring is a direct link with the Underworld. People visit it to pray to the goddess Sulis Minerva. They throw presents like jewelery and money into the Spring. She will look after them and their families.

~ "If someone has stolen something from you, you can write a note to the goddess about it. Sulis Minerva will help to get the stolen things back to you and then punish the thief! The notes are written on lead, which is quite soft, folded up and thrown into the Spring."

After lunch, we took a stroll around the city and visited the Jane Austen’s Centre, a permanent exhibition which tells the story of Jane’s Bath experience. Bath was her home from 1801 to 1806.

Jane Austen is one of the most popular and important novelists in England. She wrote <<Pride and Prejudice>>, <<Sense and Sensibility>>, and <<Persuasion>>.

Photo0363

We also visited the Sally Lunn’s House, the Oldest Building in Bath, to get a taste of the famous Sally Lunn’s bun from the Sally Lunn’s Kitchen.

Story says that: Sally Lunn, a young French girl, arrive in Bath in 1680. She brought with her a recipe for the sweet, brioche-style bread that has become known as the Sally Lunn Bun.

However, the reality states that:

price of the bun: 1.48 pounds

comment on the bun: tasteless

additional remarks:

Regret buying it. Luckily Su Yi ,Ron and I shared and so we only bought ONE bun… Or else… we sure put a big card board written "the famous lousy and con-your-$$$-bun" in front of the tea room!

LOL

Photo0367_1

We were surprised as we came across MANY pigs in Bath. Made us wonder: why are there so many pig sculptures here in Bath wor? Nani???

The secret was revealed after I checked the internet only when I was back in Glasgow: There are actually 100 individually decorated life-size pig sculptures displayed throughout the summer all around Bath - to celebrate the legend of King Bladud who together with his pigs discovered the hot springs there and went on to found the city of Bath.

……………………………………………………………………….

Went to Windsor on the 4th day…

Photo0375

the Windsor Castle

anyway, Windsor Castle was not our main aim coming to Windsor lahhh, we came all the way here purposely for this:

There were so many Lego models around! See the big dragon behind Anson?

Wow! Seriously cant imagine how they make such a big creature out of small Lego pieces…

Photo0397

Long, long time ago in the Land of Vikings, there was a girl who decided to conquer the river rapids ride. She was feeling very nervous yet excited during the Vikings’ River Splash

… So, the prince and princess lived happily ever after, both with wet clothes.

Su Yi and I  kena splashed gao-gao wey, while the 2 guys were safe, so not fair! haha!!!
